When not working with my family at LovelyLabels.com, my favorite pastime is gardening. The colors, the smell, the little squirrels that nibble on my petunias!
Ahh, let them nibble; God provides food for them and why not through the work of my hands with His soil, sunshine and rain. I have to admit that my favorite thing to do (my husband jokes with me) is to prune the dead flowers off my potted plants. Wow, what a feeling! Actually when they are pruned the plant is able to grow fuller because it maintains health, trains the stems and improves the overall quality of the plant.
Kind of like the correction we give our children. My daughter truly enjoys working with me in the garden. We outfit her with the little trowels, gloves for small hands, and of course the cute hat and sunglasses! She looks adorable - we call her (and our son) HortiKids! They both enjoy the outdoors, though their attention span through potting, mixing, fertilizing and watering may be limited, it's the teaching time that's important.
Like pruning plants to help them grow, our children also need pruning and nurturing. Doing fun activities with our kids strengthens the relationship between parent and child and provides lasting memories so that these lessons can be taught to the next generation. Then our children will show their magnificient colors to others just like these beautiful potted petunias!
